Carlos Mortensen

Juan Carlos Mortensen was born on April 13, 1972, in Ambato, Ecuador, and is an Ecuadorian professional poker player of Danish descent who grew up in Spain and immigrated to the United States in the late 1990s. He won the 2001 WSOP Main Event for $1,500,000, defeating a field of 613 players, and won his second WSOP bracelet at the 2003 World Series of Poker in the $5,000 Limit Hold'em event for $251,680. In 2004, he won the WPT Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship for $1,000,000, and in 2007 he won the WPT World Championship for $3,970,415, becoming the first player to win both a WSOP Main Event championship and the WPT World Championship. He was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2016. His total live tournament earnings exceed $12,100,000.
