The Roughrider Poker Tour returned to Jackpot Junction with a busy opening day highlighted by satellite action, plenty of familiar Midwest faces, and the start of the $640 bracelet Main Event. Flight 1A played to the bag with big swings late, creating a sharp split between the leaders and the short stacks heading into the remaining starting flights.
The $160 satellite drew 30 entries and awarded six $640 Main Event seats. In the RPT $640 Bracelet Main Event Flight 1A, registration closed at 50 entries for a $27,000 prize pool, and eight players advanced to Day 2. Survivors from Flight 1A will combine with qualifiers from Flight 1B and Flight 1C, and return on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. with all Day 2 players guaranteed in the money.
On the felt, Robert Severson showed up with aces full to win a chunky pot after Curtis Vierstraete correctly let go of queens, while Tim Votava doubled with pocket aces after spiking a full house after a lucky hug from Jordan Handrich. Alan Carlson sent Janet Lehman to the rebuy desk with a flopped set, Daryl Oppelt scooped a massive three-way all-in with aces for a triple knockout, and Leo Pinamonti survived a key race by rivering a full house with tens against ace-king. The day also featured player spotlights on Weston Wells and Tyler Kolness, plus a closer look at the custom Minnesota-themed bracelet.
Action continues tomorrow with Flight 1B on deck, as the field looks to build toward what’s expected to be the biggest turnout on Saturday’s Flight 1C before Sunday’s combined Day 2 restart.
